1. Intro – just my shout outs for the album ,the opening to let everbody know whats good !
2. No Mercy- this track was done by one of the dopest producers i know, and one of the best friends i have Deelin from Brown Study. This is one of those tracks that have that ominous feel so u know something is bout to go down , no hook on this one, just wanted to really go in from a lyrical format to set the tone , guess u could say it was my way of warming up for whats about to go down on the album...like I said in the end “bout to take it back to when cats used to spit it” , with bars like “literally im lyrically limitless / never limited / u wonder how I finished it / got me killin these sentences..u know were im goin with this one!
3. My Music- produced by my pittsburgh fam- Dan Status -this is just a straight up hypnotic track like none other ,with a chuncky bass line, and crazy strings this is the type of music u can just lay back and ride to. I definitely was in a zone for this and just wanted to express how the track was making me feel “hence” the title my music cause it was about me letting u know the difference between me and other mcees ,coming at u with bars like “ try and picture me not / keeping it hot / when the beat is so sick / its too cliché’ for me to say that im focus / its more like tunnel vision when im caught in the flow / an experience that’s similar to Emily Rose... when I opened up my email I bugged when I heard this joint haha
4. Disconnect skit- I was up till like 4 in the morning wildin by myself in the studio when I did this..truly a warped mind at work haha but it was just my way to play off of one, internet thugs and the hate that comes your way when u tryin to do your thing and two , just a small jab at the current auto tune trend and how I wanna disconnect myself from all of it
5. Story To Tell- okay here we go the first collab of the album produced by my dude Mazzini for Heartless ent and features my self and verses from two mic killers in the game, raz and mazzini yeah he not only produces but dude is dangerous on the mic to. Now originally this was a joint I did as a solo song but when I got the beat it just felt right to tell the story of everday life from 3 different perspectives. First verse is just gutter from a real live emcee , the beat was already brutal but then Mazzini drops lyrics like “now im like 6 and 0 with a knock out streak / I like gettn money / but love to knock out teeth…” whoaaaa that one line had me stuck for a couple days ..lol then here comes raz, now the only way I can describe this cat is “special” when u jump your verse off with “everday theres another form of lies presented / politicians kill conditions and the lives that’s in it”... nuff said! Lets just say I planned on it any way but I definently had to bring my A game with these two on the track
6. Common Ground- produced by Deelin for brown study - Yo funny thing about this joint is that I wrote this song like awhile ago and could never find the write vibe and it wound up being the last joint I recorded for the album .The beat bounced perfectly and was a great back drop for me to say what was on my mind. Basically this is my summation of how we work this relationship thing. Speaking first to the guys about things I’ve seen and basically done myself in an effort to get in a good space with the ladies ...with bars that question the male thought process like “Frost bit from cold shoulders / you’ll learn when u get older / stick to your guns don’t lettem touch your holster / too many cats I seen sit back and spit game / breakin they pockets not knowing that she does the same thing ….and then i give the ladies the same straight shooter talk with lines like …”if he wants it / he’ll come get it / if he’s willing to wait / use your head / that’s how u separate the real from the fake / but don’t break / cause that’ll only make the situation worsen / cats wanna screw the world but want they wife to be a virgin… see I don’t play favorites haha
7. Here We Go- produced by Eagle Man- this is like a classic boom bap beat for the street corner ciphers and cats who still rock timbs and hoodies all day, with a big orchestra sound it was crazy how the homie eagle man had it come in with the instrumentalist actually warming up. The convo with my man mike about what “real” music is was the same conversations our parents used to have with us , so who better to take along for the ride on this one than my brother rowdee methods, and boy was that a good call!! The homie lost his marbles spittin flames like “ heavily armed with these heavenly bombs / every poem just like avion / for parched eardrums…WHAT?!?! I mean really I almost caught writers cramp tryin to keep up with this cat but I put my spin on it to , goin in with verses like “its crucial when I put my hand to this / im like a full course meal next to sammiches / yall sloppy joe cats cant handle this..i love this track for the energy that was brought to it from both the rhyme and production side, definently a winner in the chemistry department.
8. BlaQlisted- produced by Deelin OH boy!!! Just talkn about this joint gets me pumped, from the intro of the voices, to the crazy out of this world bass line , this beat put me in a mode from the first note “hence” it being the title track for the album. Deelin definently out did himself with this one. This song is truly an examination of what it feels like to know u have a gift and to be over looked and put off in your struggle to be heard. When I wrote “you with the others that be hiding out hating on me / waitin to see / weather im a sink or swim / I knew I had to adopt / so I grew some fins / that’s how it is when u grow up from boys to men / man I feel tuned in like a radio station / I don’t write no more / I just take dictation…that line was the closest I could get to ,to describing what it feels like to write in a zone as if someone were speaking through me, I consider this my anthem for those still struggling to become who they know they should be.
9. Up All Night- once again another Deelin Brown Study banger this is were the album starts to take a more emotional turn never moving from skills but bringing more of what I feel and have been through to the forfront. Deelin once again gives me the perfect backdrop to write what I consider a open letter to my mom in my effort to let her know that I appreciate everthing she 's done for me over the years, from the woopens, to the sound advice ,to all the prayers I know she prayed to get me to the point I’ve gotten to in my life. Summarized in lines like “more than poetry and pockets to gain / within my veins / we share / more than blood / and your love is unconditional/ manifesting me as your son in the physical. Yeah admittedly parts of it were hard to write and even harder to listen to but the song carries so much weight that I know a lot of people will relate to it because of there relationships with there own parents. This song also features my girl jada who added that extra spark to the song with her lush full vocals simply singing from her heart... “I just want to tell u that I love” sounds simple but means so much.
10. Close My Eyes interlude – produced by DJ.Lone was just a moment to take in all that had gone on with the album to this point and just feel the music, I love this track cause it carries such a melodic vibe and definitely helped the flow of the album
11. Poptart radio- music produced by Dogon skit produced by JonBlaq…once again another late night- I cant sleep- so I might as well bug out in the studio moment haha this evolved from conversations I’d had with so many of the homies about the state of hiphop and it all spilled over into the skit, from the disgruntled hater type mcee played so well by seven da pantha “he really is like dat” lol to the booty killa cartel it was another examination of were I was seeing hiphop evolve to ..yeah I know I can be twisted but it makes for good album filler haha
12. Favorite Song- produced by Sean Hunter for hunter beats- now I cant front this dude Sean is a beast when it comes to the tracks and although I waited like a year and some change for the beat and had to promise to name my first born after him lol..he came through for ya boy with this definant head banger which I gotta say, no pun ,could easily be seen as one of my absolute favorite songs ive ever done. From the inception of the horns its just a go and who better to set this joint off with me than Mr R&B (I refuse to call him the king as he calls himself..LOL) Rashad Yarnell .Now I cant front I love the beat and the rhymes but my main reason for loving this song is because the inspiration for me writing this was my wife and it came out better than I could’ve imagined, comparing her to how it feels when I hear some of my favorite songs, fit the way I love being with her, in ways that even surprised me. Once again I felt outside myself when I wrote this one. The entire song is basically a metaphor for how I feel about her. Definitely a must hear with lines like “through it all I could never really fall for a fad / I need it to last / forever your lyrics are so clever / getting better every measure / your composition is crazy /amazing just like grace / got me facing the speaker / thought I had the blue print but fell in love with your ether! ...Not to pat myself on the back but come on cats don’t rhyme like dat no more LOL
13. Provocative Plan- produced my Mazzini for Heartless Ent - another song that I had done previously but just wasn’t getting the vibe I truly wanted for it until Mazzini dropped this winner on me. In this day and age its seems in HipHop the art of story telling has been lost but having such a canvas to paint my picture over just enhanced the movie I was trying to make with this song. Employing a fat rolling bass line and some sparkling piano keys I was able to go back and relive a moment in my life I hadn’t previously had a chance to share with most people that know me, like I said in the song “what makes this so funny is that…it’s a true story”
14. Hold me down- produced by Vines- what can I say I really got blessed with the production on this ,vines is one of my good friends from way back when I first hopped on myspace and started politicking with different people outside my state . All it took was me telling him I was working on a album and boom I opened the email and this guitar laced beauty of a track complete with the most hypnotic groove crushed my ear drums when I pushed play lol. Now we all know I couldn’t offer up a new LP without two of the dopest lyricist on the planet Mz Nokz, and Seven da panth getting it in with me. First off Mz Nokz goes in to rep the OOG squad lovely with a lyricism u don’t find in most men not to mention women ,with lines like “We stand like family united / in a game were most cats /standing divided / like the 300 verbal invincible / we go to war / if for nothing but the principle / now without furthermore adue I be Mz nokz first lady of the crew…whoaaa! Next up was seven who took his opportunity to try and make things even harder for me by dropping bombs in the vein of “the echoes of the souls lost / in this dark journey to the charts / got me chasing a dream / and got the sleep walkers facing a beam of uncertainty / u just really need to hear these two kill this track, me coming in third i took my chance to dip in out the track tryin to get my bobb and weave on and some how squeeze what life was left out of it.. not to mention Rashad killin the hook "again" like he does with everything he hops on. Truly we all held each other down on this one.
15. My Life (Rewind)- produced by Drastic was another one of those joints that turned out to be another peace of the puzzle that I call Blaqlisted. Me and Drastic have a lot of history together making music, and this track is definently a testament to that. Although we hadn’t worked together in a while but this collaboration showed that we still had a definent chemistry. This track means a lot to me cause there’s a lot of self examination in it which had me holding a mirror up to myself and really taking a look at who I am and were I had brought my self to. I know there are moments in every bodies life for good or for bad ,that we wish that we could rewind and change, or just relive how great that moment was, that was the essence I was trying to capture. Too many lines from this one stand out to me for me to determine what I would say is a dope quote because the song comes across as a complete thought just something to lay back and really “listen” to.
16. The Hurt- produced by Kmac is one of those cinematic tracks that u just feel from the moment u hear it u know something serious and sobering is on the way. Kmac not only produced this track but jumped on it with me and my fam Bron G to lace it up like a pair of kleats. Now this is somewhat of a reunion with these two gentleman because we got it in for Bron G’s album memoirs on a song called "Is it me" so given the opportunity to rock with them again was a no brainer. I set the track off with a personal vibe pointing to some of the things that have definently made me second guess the life I was living spitting verses like “To many times I had to pay when u got it for free / im in the streets trying to eat / moving house to house / every 3 or 4 months I was getting kicked out ..nobody will ever know just how true that statement is but then kmac comes through to give even a broader view of what it means to Hurt when he says “ corruption poverty stricken / and hungry children/ in vacant buildings / were the rain cracks through the ceiling. I cant front when I closed my eyes I could really see the picture he was painting with this verse and then there’s Bron G who rounds the track out with meditative bars like “Lord forgive me / sometimes I wanna retaliate/ but the pressures too much / and it weekens my faith …now tell me who has not been there.
17. Close my eyes- produced by Dj Jlone is a straight ode to hiphop if I’ve ever heard one. J lone went the extra mile to ensure that he made his mark on the album and I gotta admit he did it with flying colors. This track definently puts the listener in a dream state which makes the perfect back drop for me to go in and make a song discussing a “dream” or rather “dream like place” I was in when I wrote this. I love this song simply because, like “favorite Song” it gave me a chance to think outside the box and use my imagination to take the listener inside my world for 3 min and some change. Giving u lines like “I had a dream I was trapped in a giant maze/ and each path was divided in a thousand ways / I felt trapped like a hamster inside a cage / my feet moved like concrete stuck in clay …I know I wrote it but literally I get caught up every time I play it hopefully you will to.
18. BlaQ’d Out-produced by Dan Status- in my opinion wound up being the period at the end of the sentence. Without goin into it too much, this may be one of the dopest posse cuts ever set to wax!!! Or cd, or whatever term u wanna use LOL with a run down of some of the sickest lyricist anyone could ever compile, on one of the illest beats on the album, this joint for lack of a better word had everybody blaQing out!!! With too many one liners ,immaculate flows, and punch lines to even begin to pick from, I can just sum it up as a must here for any lover of straight up hiphop. Set off by myself, the track enlists the likes of the usual OnOurGame assasins with a few extended fam thrown in for good measure running down the line up is Jonblaq, Mz Nokz, Rowdee Methods, Equinox, Medic, Seven da pantha, and last but certainly not least Deelin aka Optimus. With a squad like this u knew it was only a matter of time before we rocked the wheels of this joint... haha and that’s just what happened Danstatus flipped the beat crazy and the rest was history ,all that was left was to turn the red light on and go for broke.
In conclusion Blaqlisted is something I stand behind wholeheartedly and hope u as the listener can enjoy and get inspiration from!! All praises Go to God & his Son for the inspiration, the words, and the music that he peaced together through me and every one who lent there gift in making this project possible, take care and stay blessed until the next enstallment
